The Charleston Place

In 1986, Charleston Mayor Joe Riley had a bold vision to transform the Holy City into a travel destination and cultural hub—beginning with The Charleston Place. Many were skeptical, but today, “Riley’s Folly” is the heart of Charleston’s revitalized historic district—a 433-key luxury hotel beloved by visitors and the local community alike. In 2022, BHC acquired The Charleston Place and began a $250+ million transformation, ensuring a bright future for this iconic landmark.

BHC’s acquisition put The Charleston Place under local ownership for the first time. A thoughtful, phased transformation is currently underway, which will refresh every interior with classical details and lush garden accents inspired by the Charleston Renaissance.
